Hermosa’s Public Works Commission is doing a nice job, going public with this proposal for redoing the restrooms at 2nd, 14th and 22nd St. They have posted renderings (right) of an alternative to the half-subterranean units that we have now — smaller, but taller units that they claim will be simpler, cleaner, more secure and more energy efficient. The department has even built some wooden frames to show actual size.
At first, I was aghast that these structures would be taller and block the view, but after more consideration I realized that the view is already obstructed by the roof and railing of the current structures, and that the new alternative would be only half as wide, so actually less view would be obstructed.
But that’s my opinion. Why don’t you go down to one of the sites and take a look for yourself? Then go down to City Hall next Wednesday at 7pm and let the Public Works Commission know what you think. They’re willing to redo them as they are now. But maybe new thinking is better? Contact 310-318-0228 for more information.
Come to think of it, if they were a little off the center of the street line they would take up even less view.
